2) All submissions must be non-fiction. Any entries that are fiction will not be considered.

3) Submissions are not restricted to residents of San jose. Ages 13-18 are welcome to participate. There is no minimum and maximum word count, but we prefer submissions that are 200-2000 words.

All submissions are due JUNE 17, 2017. Please read the following description below as well as in the submission application. By submitting your entry to the Through Teens' Eyes Essay Entry, you are agreeing to all the terms and conditions mentioned in the Release of Liability attached above. You are giving the District 2 Youth Advisory Council the ability to edit and publish your work. By submitting, you agree to no royalties nor compensation for your work

Our judges are looking for writing with the following fulfillments:
1) Use of Conventions- grammar & spelling
2) Clarity/Organization - writing is clear and articulate; Submission is well organized.
3) Unique, Original - submission discusses a unique, original theme/idea/thought OR discusses a common theme/idea/thought in a unique, original way
4) Voice - submission contains a strong voice throughout
